02/05/19 Fitness by Jacflash Women's Power Yoga Workshop with Kay Ghajar and Leyla Bagheri in our brand new home!

On Tuesday, February 5th, Fitness by Jacflash hosted a Women’s Power Yoga Workshop with Yoga Instructor Kay Ghajar and Personal Development Coach Leyla Bagheri in our new home - lululemon Toronto’s studio, the attic.

Goodie bag sponsors included Bare Snacks apple chips, Loved & Beyond handpoured candles, 1day beauty lipliner, and Undercarriage natural deoderant.

Our space, yoga mats, and equipment were provided by lululemon’s the attic - a fully functional studio with change rooms, washroom, filtered water, and sound system - located above the Queen Street West store.

Tea for the workshop was provided by long-time Fitness by Jacflash sponsor, Safaroma. Safaroma was created in response to a desperate need to provide a channel for thousands of Afghan female farmers to sell their products at fair market prices, thereby doing away with unscrupulous middlemen and dominant distribution corporations. In 2016, they began work with the Ghoryan Saffron Farmers' Union and expanded as a trusted partner for other women's co-ops as well as individual farmers. We were drinking their Paradise Tea (an herbal blend with infused saffron) for the evening.

Our speaker, Leyla Bagheri, graciously shared her story and struggles with self-love. She asked everyone to rate their relationship with themselves from 1-10 and walk to that number in the room. We discussed our reasons for the rating with people who shared the same rating as us. Finally, we wrote “love letters” to ourselves, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Our yoga instructor Kay Ghajar then lead us in a one hour power yoga session. Her detailed, descriptive instruction and high energy made the class exciting, comprehendible and achievable for the women in the class who are all at different levels. As a special treat, we had Sophie Lukacs (@sophie.lukacs) playing the kora at the beginning and end of the yoga session. The kora is a 21-string lute-bridge-harp, which originated in West Africa. Sophie has been living and studying the kora in Mali for the past 3 years.

Our amazing assistants, fellow yoga instructors Meredith and Jessica, provided hands-on assists throughout the session.

Raffle ticket prizes were two full-sized tubs of Undercarriage deoderant paired with Skindew’s aromatherapy body oil. We also have Corrine from 1day beauty on hand to answer questions and share her lipliners in person. As a special treat, Tori from Top Knot was present to unveil their stylish workout and casual hats - designed for women who want to sport a high pony with their hat! Jaclyn and Kay rocked theirs all night :)
