Spaces By Jacflash transforms Rachel David's quirky living room into a sophisticated living space

Spaces by Jacflash amped up our newest client and my good friend Rachel David's quirky condo into a more sophisticated and put-together living space. (@racheldavid)

We found inspiration from eclectic, traditional spaces. Every piece we chose serves more than one purpose and can live in her home for years.

Our favourite element is the fireplace. This unique built-in has a large mantel and shelving tucked away in the corner, but was originally a dated maple wood. We sanded and painted it —along with the window ledges— white, to brighten and update the room.

The 'brick' we used around the fireplace is a porcelain tile that serves to make the mantle look more finished.

With a smaller budget, we had to get creative and use our resources appropriately. Many of the pieces we purchased were inexpensive, and often antiques. We had our first visit to the Hamilton Antique Mall, which is a hidden gem for affordability. The other more modern pieces like the sofa and coffee table were purchased from Ikea.

The plethora of paintings Rachel inherited from her grandmother were a major treat. She had so many to choose from; our role was to curate them in a more effective way. Instead of having the large pieces scattered around her apartment, we created a gallery wall above the couch. This living room looks so bright and colourful, but the only actual source of colour is in the art and accessories, which we love.

Finishing touches like curtains and plants really make this living room feel like it has been put together over time and fits our client's lifestyle and personality. This project was such a success that Rachel has decided to re-do her kitchen with us next!

Invisible Outlets

Steering away from the traditional bulky and visually obstructive outlets, invisible outlets are a design solution that refrain from the aesthetic and flow of your space being compromised.

The aesthetic is flush and rimless, seamlessly blending with the interior.

They can be faux finished, painted, wallpapered or laminated.

We are currently installing invisible outlets in a client's bathroom, it runs flush with the wall. By covering it with the same white marble as the wall, we are able to achieve this seamless, "invisible" look.

There are many different options regarding ways to finish the outlet such as painting, or adding wallpaper, that are surprisingly affordable as well!

Jacflash Trends: Lace Bustier

The crop top seems to be a piece that women wear to show off their amazing abs, but if you don't feel comfortable baring your belly, don't fret- this lace bustier creates an illusion to refocus the eye to the most appealing, and smallest, part of your waist. A modernized take on a crop top that we love is the lace bustier which was originated from the structured look of a form-fitting corset.

You can shop the lace bustier trend here at jacflash.net.

We suggest pairing it with high waisted pants/shorts with a cute leather or bomber jacket or with a great skirt, like the Jacflash Black Tulle Skirt or the Jacflash Mesh Black Slit Pencil Skirt for the perfect GNO!

Jacflash, Lace Bralette $45, available here.

A Luxuriously, Ornate & Cozy Dwelling By Spaces By Jacflash

Spaces by Jacflash has transformed this old rental home from a neglected, drab space into a luxuriously, ornate and cozy dwelling. These are the 5 key features that make this room oh-so-special.

1.Wall Moulding - In our previous blog post on DIY wall moulding,we touched on how wall moulding and wainscotting can dramatically change a bland space into an architecturally appealing room. We decided to frame the back wall with this moulding which pairs perfectly with the freshly white painted brick.

2. Fur - We decided to add some faux fur to give the space a cozy and luxurious vibe.

3. Organic elements - A quick way to liven up a space is by using organic elements. We incorporated a birds of paradise plant, tiny cactus, beautiful roses and an orchid.  We also incorporated stacked wood into our bookshelf under our monochromatic library of books.

4. Striking furniture - You would be amazed at where you can find the most intriguing furniture from kijiji to an antique store basement- the stranger the place, the better the find! Most of our pieces in this space are one of a kind and specially selected.

5. An Eye-catching Accessory - Our main attraction in the room is the gorgeous ornate framed mirror.  The ornate details in the frame really tie the space together expressing the style as vintage-chic. The gold pairs great with our gold office style floor lamp and marble top gold side table. You can find these frames hiding in antique stores but once restored, they can really tie a room together.

Here are some photos of the space- Let us know what you think of this space on our twitter @spacesxjacflash !
